The Schisms, a 3-piece post-punk band based in Austin, Texas, have officially released their latest music video title “Don’t Clip My Wings.” The video, created in a 1950’s comic book style throwback, was created by Austin award-winning video production team Three-Eyed Cat, LLC. Drawing from old school comic book art and sci-fi films, the video incorporates an innovative combination of rotoscoping, human-made animation, and AI functionalities.
“Most of our videos and music have dark and moody concepts,” said Carson Barker, leader and founder of The Schisms. “We wanted to switch it up on this video and do something against the grain.”
“I’ve collaborated with Carson and The Schisms many times before and it’s always a ton of fun,” said Nate Bayless, owner and founder of Three-Eyed Cat. “Carson’s concept for this video was 100% up my alley, so I couldn’t wait to get started hashing it out and jump into animation.”
The video depicts Carson and band members inside traditional comic book frames, alongside sci-fi art and landscapes. The video begins in an idyllic vintage style, then slowly escalates into sci-fi madness. It examines and critiques nostalgic Americana through the lens of psychedelia and Cronenberg-esque body horror, while always retaining the fun of schlocky comics and B-movie camp.
“I think the basic storyline started with me, then Nate really fleshed it out. He’s much more knowledgeable about comic book art styles and older sci-fi movies than I am so I pretty much gave him free reign.” Said Barker.
The video was partially funded by the City of Austin Live Music fund, which was granted to Barker in 2024. “That music fund opened up worlds of opportunities for me.” Said Barker. “Austin is still a great place for musicians to live.”
‘Don’t Clip My Wings’ officially launched on Friday, Oct 17, 2025 and premiered exclusively on The Austin Chronicle’s website. For more information, visit the-schisms.com, or threeeyedcatcollective.com.
Forged by the union of frontman Carson Barker, Caleb Ditzenberger on bass and synths, and Berkley-grad drummer Gregg Irick, The Schisms are a self proclaimed “Psych-Goth” band that formed in 2013 and have since self-produced two EPs one full-length album “Moon” with Grammy-winning producer, Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Loretta Lynn) at the helm, and a second LP “Bender” self-recorded and produced by the band.
The Schisms latest full length, titled “Bender,” is another departure from their previous music. Infusing more improved jams, synth sounds, and harmonically stretched vocals, “Bender” was recorded in an abandoned river cabin outside of Austin, TX over the course of 4 days. An animated video for the single ‘Don’t Clip My Wings’ was premiered by The Austin Chronicle on October 17, 2025.
The Schisms music has received glowing reviews from The Austin Chronicle, Magnet Magazine, No Recess, The Arizona Daily Sun, and more. They are currently working with Sikes again on more music, and following up with extensive tours in 2026.
